Babcock University has entered into a landmark partnership with the Project Management Institute (PMI) Nigeria, aimed at equipping students with globally recognized project management skills and enhancing their employability in the international job market.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will among others, create access to professional development opportunities and globally recognized certifications; connection to PMI’s international community of project professionals, foster the establishment of a sustainable PMI Student Club on campus; as well as promotion of evidence-based project management, thought leadership, and regional research.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, PMI Africa Head of Community, Mrs. Adeola Akande, emphasized that the collaboration will expand student membership across Africa, create greater access to global certifications, and empower aspiring project professionals with capabilities that drive innovation, digital transformation, and entrepreneurship.
Babcock University President/Vice Chancellor, Prof. Afolarin Ojewole, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating: “We are about growing and building people, and this is about growing people. Let’s do this.”
The PMI Nigeria President, Arc (Dr.) Gbolahan Oyelakin described the MoU as historic, noting that student clubs are “special clubs” that open doors to networking opportunities, leadership roles, and certification programmes. As part of the collaboration, PMI also announced an all-expense paid trip to Cape Town for one Babcock student to attend the upcoming PMI regional programme later this year.
The event, held at the President/Vice Chancellor’s Boardroom, had senior University officials including Prof. Jonathan Nwosu, Senior Vice President Academics, Vice President Advancement and Development, Dr. Olaniyi Arije, Director of Legal Services, Dr. Joseph Agada, and Chief of Staff, Dr. Joshua Suleiman alongside PMI’s team lead and seven other members.
This partnership aligns with Babcock University’s GRACE mandate of raising globally relevant graduates who are research-focused, Adventist-rooted, competent, and entrepreneurial. It marks a pivotal step in preparing students for success in the global marketplace.
