Background
Since 2018, the CwPAMS grants have been concentrated on enhancing antimicrobial stewardship (AMS), cultivating pharmaceutical expertise and capacity, as well as bolstering infection prevention and control (IPC) initiatives. The primary objective of this programme is to harness the proficiency of United Kingdom health institutions and technical specialists to augment the capabilities of the health workforce and institutions within Commonwealth nations, thereby equipping them to confront the challenges posed by antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which constitutes a significant public health menace globally, in addition to fostering opportunities for reciprocal learning.
CwPAMS is financially supported by the UK Department of Health and Social Care’s Fleming Fund. The Fleming Fund represents a UK aid initiative that assists up to 25 countries across the African and Asian continents in addressing AMR. This fund allocates resources to enhance surveillance systems through a comprehensive array of country grants, regional grants, and fellowships overseen by Mott MacDonald, alongside global projects administered by various partners.
