Dr. Olabiyi Hezekiah Olaniran is a physician and clinical researcher whose work spans cardiovascular medicine, surgery, artificial intelligence, and global health. He is a graduate of the Benjamin S. Carson School of Medicine, Babcock University.
During medical school, he served as General Secretary of the Babcock University Association of Medical Students (BUAMS) and Chairman of its Medical Students' Disciplinary Committee. He founded Cerebro, the Association's first student magazine, co-organized its inaugural Medical Student Research Conference, and helped host the first Nigerian Medical Students' Association (NiMSA) South-west Regional Convention at Babcock University. He received the Nigerian Medical Students' Association Award of Meritorious Service for his contributions to student leadership.
As a medical student, Dr. Olaniran collaborated with investigators from Johns Hopkins University, Emory University, Vanderbilt University, the University of Calabar, and Babcock University on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and critical care research, resulting in a peer-reviewed publication that established the foundation for his continuing interest in cardiovascular medicine and academic surgery.
Following graduation, he completed the National Youth Service Corps at the Nigerian Defence College, Abuja, where he was elected Corps Liaison Officer — the highest leadership position for a corps member at that institution — leading public health and educational initiatives that reached more than 800 schoolchildren.
Dr. Olaniran later founded Holan Healthcare, a nonprofit expanding access to healthcare through medical outreach, health education, research, and public health innovation in underserved communities, and previously held leadership roles with Harvest Field Foundation and Pre-Diagnosis International, where he helped launch Project Anonymous, the organization's first reproductive telehealth initiative.
He earned a Master of Public Health in Global Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, with international training in Uganda, Chile, and India. Drawing on his work in rural epilepsy care, he co-developed EpiAssist, an AI-enabled platform supporting epilepsy education, symptom monitoring, and access to specialist care, which won the Boston Hub of the Harvard Health Systems Innovation Lab Global Hackathon. At Harvard, he served as President of the Nigerian Students Association and currently co-chairs the American Public Health Association's HIV/AIDS Section Communications Committee.
He is a Clinical Research Fellow with the PASSIO Laboratory at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and serves in the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. As Nigeria Hub Coordinator for the Harvard Health Systems Innovation Lab, he led the inaugural Nigeria Hub hosted at Babcock University, where Team Pintra received the Highest Public Impact Award.
His honours include the Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award from the American Heart Association, the Boston Congress of Public Health 40 Under 40 Public Health Catalyst Award, the IEEE EMBS Biomedical and Health Informatics Best Paper Award, the Gareth M. Green Award for Excellence in Public Health Practice, and the Harvard Maternal and Child Health Leadership Lab Award. His research has appeared in The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Circulation, and The Lancet Oncology.
