Scar in Copyright Protection: Harnessing the Potential of Performers’ Rights in Nigeria

The lecturer explored the gaps (scars) in Nigeria’s copyright protection, particularly in relation to performers’ rights. Professor Dorcas A. Odunaike reviewed the biblical foundation of performance, clarifying key concepts relevant to performers' rights, and analyzed the contribution of performers to economic development globally and nationally, reviewing data on the contribution of the entertainment/creative industry to the Gross Domestic Product (evidence of the potential of performers’ rights in enhancing economic growth), and examined the basic provisions of the 2022 Copyright Act relevant to performers’ rights.
