MISSION

The department as an integral part of the School of Computing and Engineering Sciences of Babcock University strives to contribute to the mission of the Adventist Church by producing competent male and female experts in Software applications/solutions development and maintenance adequately prepared to commit themselves to the service of God and play a disciplined and innovative part in the research and development of solutions across the world in IT.

VISION

It is the vision of the department to perform world-class research in selected areas of relevance and provide quality, cutting-edge educational experiences to students, and be leaders in IT.

1 Objectives

For the graduates of B.Sc (Hons) Software Engineering in the department to be globally competitive, the following objectives are set:

Help students develop the ability to design and construct a software system, component, or process to meet desired needs, within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health & safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.

2 Objectives

Inculcate into the students to appreciate the spiritual values needed in the maintenance of Information Systems while considering security and privacy issues. Graduating Software Engineering students from the department must have an understanding of their professional and ethical responsibilities.
Teach students to apply standard development process and service oriented architecture (SOA) in the design of secure and scalable solutions to meet the present IT needs.

3 Competencies and Skills

The curriculum provides opportunities to develop in the student competencies and skills in the various components of the regime of knowledge. These include the following:

Ability to manipulate data in alternative forms to create deeper Use of relevant test and measurement equipment including assemblage and use of experimental laboratory/workshop activities; ability to estimate errors/accuracy of the use and development of software.

4 Competencies and Skills

Ability to apply software engineering techniques taking into account, industrial and commercial constraints, to learn independently and understand new concepts in the discipline.
Competence in teamwork and leadership and providing solutions particularly in Africa and the world at large with the use of information technology tools, including programming languages and a broad understanding of emerging technologies techniques.
