Media Experts Call For Promoting Digital Communication

Young people can use the power of digital media at their disposal to change the negative narrative of Nigeria’s educational system and image.

Managing Director of TVC Entertainment and Host, Your View, Dr. Morayo Afolabi-Brown made this assertion at the Mass Communication Students Association seminar, Opportunities beyond Borders: Leveraging Contemporary Mass Communication Realities.

“Don’t dream small or little. Build blogs to build this nation; we must be angry at the negative narrative and let our voices drown theirs,” she said.

Aside changing narratives, she said they create content to reach a global audience and therefore must be mindful of what they put up.

“Everything you do now is not just for Babcock University. You must take responsibility for every content you put out. It is your track record and footprint you are playing with when you are not mindful of what you post. Little things could get you global attention.”

On his part, Host of Politics Today and Sunday Politics of Channels Television, Mr. Seun Okinbaloye, inspired his audience to choose impact over money in their quest for professional development.

“Your skill set is very key. Never choose money. Choose value, choose impact. Money will follow.” he said.

He also counselled them not to allow hate comments to define their realities. He said wisely used, comments could become learning tools in their professional growth.

“Hate comments can be depressing. But one can also learn from them. I take what I want to and move,” he said.

The Head of Department, Prof. Kolade Ajilore and other faculty members were also present to give their support.
