ELLEN G. WHITE-SDA RESEARCH CENTRE, BABCOCK UNIVERSITY

Our Mission

The mission of the Ellen G. White-SDA Research Centre, Babcock University is to implement the provisions of the last will and testament signed by Ellen G. White in 1912, three years before her death. This will established a self-perpetuating board of trustees to which was assigned four major responsibilities:

  • 1. Assume and maintain custody of all manuscripts and books written by Ellen G. White
  • 2. Improve typographically, as necessary, Ellen White books in print, and endeavor to publish translations wherever needed.
  • 3. Prepare compilations from unpublished Ellen White manuscripts to meet the ever-changing needs of both the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the world.
  • 4. Appropriate profits from the Ellen White publications to assist the general missionary work of the Church.

Our Methods

We seek to accomplish this sacred mission in a variety of ways, including the following:
  • 1. Preserving the Ellen G. White manuscripts, letters, and historical artifacts and memorabilia from physical danger, such as fire, water, and theft; and assuring their integrity by preventing alterations of texts or unauthorized use of these materials.
  • 2. Employing the services of dedicated men and women at the Ellen G. White SDA-Research Centre, Babcock University and the various fields and institutions within the Division who possess literary skills and talents for public speaking as well as writing.
  • 3. Meeting the spiritual needs of the Church in the West-Central Africa Division by providing new weekly insights from Ellen White’s unpublished letters, published books and manuscripts, and adapting current publications to meet the needs of special groups, such as students, men, youth, women, and children within the West African sub-region.
  • Conducting seminars, workshops and teaching Spirit of Prophecy/Church Heritage classes at all levels of the Church (local church, Districts, Conferences, Union and Division) and in all institutions of learning in WAD. It also includes producing Ellen G. White counsels in CDs and other electronic materials for the edification of our members in the Babcock University community and the entire Division. Preaching in churches, camp meetings, conventions, and writing articles and books to provide a better understanding of inspiration, illumination, and revelation among God’s last day people thereby promoting an increased awareness in the study of the Bible and the writings of Ellen G. White.
  • 5. Encouraging the establishment of the Ellen G. White Study Centers in every Conference, Union, and institution of learning within the WAD territory as authorized by the WAD SOP Committee and the White Estate of the General Conference.

Our Vision

We look forward to a time when the inspired writings of Ellen G. White will be so widely read, understood, translated and readily available that all who accept the everlasting gospel of Revelation 14:6-12 will be enabled to stand fast against Satan’s final attempt to “deceive the very elect of God.”
